BSAGA will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, in Meeting Rooms A and B downstairs in the Hoover Public Library. The wee care workshop has been postponed until March 14 which will be a longer meeting due to the workshop. More info to follow later!
At this meeting we will continue the project started last month with Sandi Boylan – the pin cushion and scissor fob . Please bring your kit to the meeting if you want the fob to match the holder. Sandi will have ribbon and beads, etc but no guarantee they will match.
Glenda asked me to remind you, if you haven’t already, to please pay your SAGA dues online. She needs you to give her your membership number. This is very important if we expect to receive a grant for our retreat.

The Black Marlin (Makaira Indica from the order Perciformes) that lives in surface waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. One of the fastest fish on earth (50 miles per hour), M. Indica weighs in at around 750 kilometers (approximately 1700 pounds), although larger specimens have been caught. It is a highly sought after commercial game fish. Black Marlin Charters offer a thoroughly satisfying sports fishing experience.
Greenpeace
Makaira, along with other genera of the Perciformes order, is on the Greenpeace seafood red list. This is a list of commonly available fish that are highly likely to be sourced from unsustainable sources. For this reason, most modern sport fishermen will return them to the sea once they have caught and photographed them. It is in the same family, Istiophoridae, as the Japanese white and Hawaiian silver marlins.
Old Salt
Ernest Hemingway’s old fisherman, Santiago, made his fictional claim to fame when he broke a nearly three-month dry spell when he finally hooked a Makaira. The remainder of the novel, ‘The Old Man and the Sea’, captures the chronology of the old man’s brave struggle with the beast and Mother Nature.
Color
Strictly speaking, Makaira Indica is not black. It is dark blue and white. Only the rigid pectoral fins and the tail fins are black. It has a less rounded shape than its blue cousin and its ventral fins rarely exceed one foot long, regardless of how big the fish is. It prefers the warm, coastal waters of the tropics and the subtropics. Rarely, it has been seen to cross the Atlantic Ocean via the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa as far southwest as Brazil and northwest to the Lesser Antilles.
Fishing Tours
The eastern coast of Australia offers some of the best chartered fishing breaks on the planet. Approximately 75% of all marlin over the weight of one ton are caught along a 150-mile section of the Great Barrier Reef off the Cairns coast. Altogether, game fishermen off the coasts of Brazil, Hawaii and Portugal catch in the region of half this amount.
Game Fish
The Gold Coast at Brisbane is a very popular gathering place for light tackle enthusiasts seeking Makaira and other game fish. Here they can trawl for Spanish Mackerel, Mia, Wahoo and others. Bottom fishers, otherwise known as ‘jiggers’, come here to find Kingfish, Cobia, Peal Perch and Snapper.
Port Stephens
Port Stephens is more than twice the size of Sydney Harbor. With its beautiful scenery, glassy clear waters and golden shoreline, it is a world-class focus for Black Marlin Fishing. Tours from this area depart during the month of January through April.

Drug rehabilitation generally includes counseling as an important component to recovery? Group treatment meetings or group drug counseling may be provided by the treatment facility to spark conversations leading to new lines of thought among the patients. These discussions may help those undergoing therapy on their journey to recovery.
Rehabilitation
A patient will initially move toward rehabilitation with lots of questions about his or her future success in the program. However, time spent in rehabilitation can bring new routines after an initial withdrawal and adjustment period. Small steps then can be taken towards counseling and addressing the root causes of a person’s addiction.
Therapy
Problems that can pile up in an addict’s life can be addressed in therapy. These issues can include problems paying bills, bad relationships with friends and families, embarrassing situations they torture themselves over in their mind, in addition to the drug addiction. This is a time, perhaps even the first time for a patient, to take stock and resolve to make changes with the assistance of new life habits and therapy.
Therapy
Solutions may begin to work their way to the surface from these first steps in conversations with others. Members of the group may discuss how they have dealt with similar issues, such as dealing with cravings by reorganizing and restructuring their days to fight addiction and push their minds to move on to different things. Making a list of goals or general issues to deal with can help get someone with addiction problems to move in a positive direction and keep busy.
Journaling
Keeping a journal may be part of the therapy and counseling sessions, in which patients may share some of their writings as a cathartic process for healing. These daily writing sessions, perhaps part of the person’s rehab routine, can help in exploring changes occurring in rehab, as well as past problems that may have led to the initial addiction.
Options
Personal, individualized therapy also may be part of the time spent in rehab. A counselor trained in dealing with substance abuse or other types of addiction may be a sounding board for the patient as he or she works through the issues surrounding his or her behavior. This type of counseling can be crucial to help get a patient thinking in new terms about what the addiction means and possibly its causes in his or her life.
After Treatment
These types of sessions do not have to be limited to just the drug addiction treatment treatment center. These sessions may continue after the patient has ended his or her time in rehab. Further meetings may be helpful as part of a support structure for the patient to help cope with life outside the treatment center.
