http://www.dreamalittlebigger.com/post/upcycled-linens-crochet-rag-rug-tutorial.html
Well, this rug isn’t actually ragged. It’s just made in the style of a Rag Rug which makes it rugged, for sure. What I like about this project is that it not only uses recycled thrift store sheets but also emphasizes the make-do attitude of the crocheter who, having discovered that she doesn’t have enough material in the sheets she just purchased, digs out some others from a cupboard, dies them, and creates a rug that probably looks better than it would have with only her original sheets.
I like the thriftyness of the project. I like Allison’s creativity and her excellent tutorial. I like everything except what those fabric strips would do to my wrists. But, if that isn’t a problem for you, this project will be a winner. I can just see the run on sheets at thrift stores all over the country. Watch out!

A few days ago, I mentioned an afghan that became a bedspread as part of
my comment on Quinton’s excellent post about how to say “No” when asked to
knit something.
Nehkhasi said he’d like to read about it…so, my friend, this is for
you:
Some years ago, I was demonstrating spinning at a local venue and we had a
young woman stop by, asking if any of us would be interested in making a gift
for her mother. An afghan.
I agreed to the project and quoted a price based on the size and materials
of the afghan I normally knit at that time. [Which, to be fair, was a bit
larger than what most patterns call for.]
Then the problems began:
1) She balked at paying me for the materials, which were at cost, when
documented with the reciept. Especially after…
2) I had to buy more yarn to begin reknitting the project because…
3) The size I thought she wanted wasn’t as big as the afghan I knit up “…to
fit my Mom’s bed”.
So, after a couple of restarts – and several phone calls about why the
afghan wasn’t finished – I finally got the blessed thing finished and large
enough for what she wanted…
A bedspread that fit a Queen-sized bed. Not the simple afghan that I
figured for use on the couch or a single-sized bed.
So…I learned valuable lessons:
1) Know exactly what the person wants before you agree to anything.
Especially before you quote a price.
2) Let them know that materials are expected to be a separate payment, with
provisions to pay for more if required to finish the job, as that cost
doesn’t come out of the final fee.
3) To that end, if at all possible, have them approve the final color choices
– and yarn used – so you don’t get stuck with a batch of yarn that you’d
normally avoid, or a finished piece that was rejected because the person
decided it wasn’t suitable after all.
In fact, make that part of the negotiations…If they reject the yarn and/or
project after approving it; they’ve still bought it. With any replacement
yarn/piece being a separate commissioned item, billed accordingly.
4) Make it clear that handcrafted items take time to create and a reasonable
effort will be made to finish the project in a timely manner. However,
deadlines for the finished product – at their end – have to be reasonable as
well. Delays can happen. Plus, it saves wear and tear on the knitter’s hands
and body by preventing marathon knitting sessions.
Or, as Quinton so wisely said – and I’ve come to do as a matter of habit -
politely explain that you do not accept commissions.

I was showing my mom how to dye fabric (silk to be specific) last weekend. We dabbled in a range of techniques including painting, dipping, dripping and some good old fashioned kettle dyeing. I even tested my hand at dyeing silk ribbon! So much fun!
I purchase my nekked silk (in scarf and ribbon form) and acid dyes from Dharma Trading Company (which has been one of my favorite supply sources since college…uh, a long time). I’m really loving the ribbon. I will definitely be dyeing more of that for weaving, knitting and crocheting projects. Fun!

There’s something spectacular in relation to 24 inch rims on a muscle car, or virtually any automobile, for that matter. Once you incorporate the correct type of tire to that wheel, it creates a combination which will turn heads and acquire individuals’ awareness. It does not make a difference should your wheels are dark colored machined or polished; the last overall look is still likely to be remarkable.
Customized colored rims provide a unique overall look
If you prefer a little creativeness along with your 24 inch rims, then you need to look for a selection of custom color rims. Your dark colored and yellow sports car would look outstanding going across town with dark and green wheels upon it. When you squeeze in a little bit of silver accent for the lugs, you will get something that comes with a distinctive but impressive overall look. On the subject of choosing the right sort of wheels, it can sometimes be mentioned that style is just as necessary as substance.
Stand out from the tradition along with 24 inch rims
When you find the appropriate internet site for the 24 inch wheels, you’ll be able to select from alternatives including customized decorated inserts or an entire wheel that is certainly painted to match your automobile. A set of 4 orange rims to counterbalance the orange trim on your own dark colored vehicle can be outstanding. It will get even better once you put the black tires on the wheels and bring the entire thing together with each other. There aren’t many auto elements that supply the experience of style and the layout possibilities that customized rims offer you.
Be certain to choose the right size for your automobile
Before you invest in a group of 24 inch rims, you’ll want to 1st be certain that your car or truck is designed for them. Some vehicles were created with really certain size tires which may suggest that yours won’t be able to handle the kinds of rims you need. As these custom made wheels made by well-known companies can be considerable investments, it is advisable to be sure that your automobile can hold them prior to you making your purchase.
Buy 24 inch rims with excellent brand names
Whenever you do decide to add new 24 inch rims on your car or truck, make sure to look solely on trustworthy web sites for example: http://www.hubcap-tire-wheel.com/ and get only those rims created by the most beneficial makers. The very last thing you may need should be to place your vehicle up on a group of wheels that you aren’t certain about. Have confidence in your purchase by making the choice to go with a trustworthy online supplier and to shop for wheels who have the good name for being produced by the most known makers in the world.

That I got this thing done.
That’s right, I got all the knitting on the Brooklyn Tweed Autumn Leaves
Stole finally wrapped up last night.

It was quite late by then so I waited until this morning to block it.

I have to say, though it was long and tedious, it was a great pattern.

Spinning my own yarn may have added to the tediousness, and since it was
smaller than the recommended Shelter, I had to drop needle size to 6 to get
good stitch definition.

It came out to be about 24 inches wide and 66 inches long. It will be a
great winter wrap for my Mom.

I am considering putting it in the fair though. What do you think?
I am now down to one remaining project on the needles! Well, two but one
is a simple baby hat that just needs a crown finished off which is maybe
30minutes of work so it doesn’t really count. I cast it on when we went to
see a movie so I could work on it during the flick. I got the ribbing, body,
and first couple crown shaping rounds done during it the movie but never got
back to it. Now I may actually get those socks done. Don’t hold your breath,
but I am going to attempt to finish them up before the Tour de Fleece starts
so I can wear them to the retreat and focus my energies on spinning.
Currently I have a beautiful baby camel and silk blend on the wheel. Well,
since one bobbin is done and the other not started I guess it’s not
technically “on” the wheel but you know what I mean.
Alas, let’s not forget, every day is made a little brighter with some cute
canine silliness.
