The pattern isn’t vintage, but the look and style of these sailor trousers definitely is. Oh yes, and so are the buttons!  I’m really happy with the drapey 1940′s feel of them and they’re SO comfortable to wear.  To read more about the construction process and see more pics, please hop over to my blog Handmade Jane. x

Feeling so CapeAble

I’ve been itching to make a cape for the mild California fall weather and had seen some vintage designs that inspired me to check there first.  I went on the hunt for a cape pattern and stumbled upon Simplicity 5359.  The pattern includes two cape options (one with a collar, one without) and a wiggle dress.  I love the dress too, so I’ve put that aside for a future project.

I made this out of a brown wool with a tan, satin interior lining.  The pattern was only a few pieces that were already cut out, so one tedious step omitted from the start!  More details and pictures are on my blog: What’s Up, Cupcake?

It’s Alive! 40′s Jumper Frankenpattern

Posted on January 1, 2012 at 10:23 pm, by Admin
in Category Sewing | Tags: ,,,,

I finally finished my interpretation of a 1940s jumper from a pattern that was sadly missing the jumper pieces. I used a heavy pink linen with white slubs (thrifted) and the trim is a soft mystery type fabric (twill?) I scored from an estate sale. There may be pillows floating around somewhere made from this fabric but I still think it’s cute. I really wanted pockets but they just didn’t seem to work with this skirt. I made a tie belt with covered buttons (a first for me!). This outfit looks cute with a tank under it too for the summer time. More pictures and the different patterns used to create the jumper are found on my blog.
