A STUNNING HEIRLOOM

At our August, 2011 Crochet Club meeting, Marti shared with us the framed, heirloom collar that was crocheted by her great grandmother.  Marti cherishes this treasured heirloom and has it beautifully framed.  Now, Marti is attempting to recreate this antique design.  She has found a similar pattern minus several of the elements that her grandmother incorporated into the original design.

Marti's Antique Collar

Check out this and the other beautiful things that Marti has created and posted on her blog.  You’ll also remember that her daugher, Mary, is the Crochet Club member who created her original ‘Ruffled Bracelet’ that was such a hit at our meeting.  It seems that wizardry with hook and yarn now reaches to four generations of this family – that we know about.  Marti and her daughter Mary are carrying on a tradition of crochet demonstrated so beautifully in this antique collar crocheted by Great Grandmother, Ethyl Cole Sikes Mafies, in 1910.  You can see Marti’s blog here.
