Dana and Maddie Sew a Long Day 2

Welcome to day 2 of the sew a long!
Today we start sewing! First get your ruffle strip and fold it in half and allign the raw edges to the bodice top. (do for the front and back)

Remember to set your stitch length to the highest you have for gathering purposes. I sew 2 parallel lines to gather

Ruffle until it is the same length as your binding strip. Next as per the directions on page 9 do the binding strip on your ruffle right side down on your wrong side of main piece with your ruffle in the middle.
now onto page 10 of your directions, iron your ruffle piece away from the main fabric and then fold your binding trip over to the front and under (shown below – I folded it up on the left so you could get an idea of the layering)
In this next pic you can really see how the binding strip is folded under – I ironed it like this and then pulled the ruffle piece up. I just found it much easier to work with this way.
Pull the ruffle bit up – but keep that binding strip down and carefully pin into place. It might want to get away from you or bunch up behind there as you pin so keep your eye on that.
Edgestitch that binding strip in place
You should repeat these steps for the front and back pieces. and now your front and back main pieces should be complete!
Tomorrow we will work on the sleeve bands! This is pretty painless so far right? If you have questions hop on over to the facebook page

Long skirts: four basic models for your wardrobe

Posted on May 23, 2013 at 1:30 pm, by Admin
in Category Embroidery | Tags: ,,,,,

I remember even as a child, had a weakness for skirts. I really! Now I must confess that, for reasons of space and money, I had to reduce my collection. However, I have yet basic skirts should be in every wardrobe.

types-skirt-8

Maxi skirt: Can be used all year round

They were very popular in the past year and, apparently, will stay with us for much longer. Being that they are so versatile! You can carry them in your preferred color and even super bold prints. My personal recommendation is that you choose one of a bright color, like mustard or orange, will serve both the winter and the summer.
For summer, full, vibrant color is always good, but printed maxi is also an excellent choice and easy to combine with simple tops. These outfits are easy to create, and super trendy.
Beware of your maxi prints, which I recommend if you are short wear skirts in solid colors or patterned young children.

A maxi can also be the perfect weapon to become whole femme fatale, sophisticated and modern. Fashion garments matching it with a denim jacket or blazer.

And do not hold your long skirt when winter comes, you can also build beautiful outfits that will keep you warm. A jacket or sweater will be the best allies to keep you warm and fashionable.

Asymmetrical Skirt

The asymmetrical skirts became fashionable almost on par with the maxi, and are characterized by different lengths they have. Some are longer ago are higher other right and left, and others are simply composed of layers fall freely from the sides.

types-skirt-maxi-3

Like the maxi, are super versatile, glamorous and even more common than skirts. They are perfect for your everyday or borcegos slippers, and special occasions in heels and show off your favorite blouse.

Trumpet Skirt: The skirt of the season

The trumpet skirt is one of those pleasant surprises that brings the autumn-winter 2013. It’s super flattering silhouette with all women, because it sharpens the waist highlights the derriere and make a balance between the shoulders and hips.
If you are short, my only recommendation is that you choose skirts that reach a finger on your knees. If you’re taller, you can show off with skirts that reach up to your ankles or your knees.

And this is a model that comes from the catwalks, and you will see not only long skirts, but also long skirts and dresses. Super feminine and adorable.

types-skirt-10

Tube skirt or pencil skirt

Know you have a favorite miniskirt, that you use to break the record, but tell me if it not necessary to have a slightly longer skirt save you more formal situations!

types-skirt-4

Is not that a longer tube skirt look more elegant? Desentonaras not one of estas.Y never eye, do not think that you will only pencil skirt for work, now find them in many colors and textures you will not want to take them off ever.

Did you take note? If you lack any of these long skirts, runs to find the one that best fits your needs. Remember, always dare to wear clothes that enhance your natural beauty and not be afraid to take your curves proudly.

Long circular needles – found ‘em!

Posted on May 8, 2012 at 2:31 am, by Admin
in Category Knitting | Tags: ,,,

A couple weeks ago, one of the fellas was mentioning that he was looking for some needles that were a little longer to make it easier to keep in hand. Here’s what I found:
I prefer to knit 2 at a time whenever possible therefore I need a really long circular, usually 40″ since my hands are pretty large. I bought some from Amazon.com and have to say that I’m pretty impressed so far with the needles I bought. The set is a complete set from 0 – #15 and I ordered the 40″ length, but they offer these complete sets in all the common lengths. The beautiful part is that the small sizes like 0 – #3 are all 5″ long. The company is Stitchberry and the needles I got were the premium bamboo. As I like working with bamboo, I didn’t look to see if they offer them in nickel or anything.
One last thing, I paid for the whole set, so if anything should happen to any of them, I won’t be out much and hopefully will have tons of projects made by then.
Almost forgot to mentiont that the cable is a non-memory type of plastic. I’m soooo happy with this purchase. Just thought I’d share.

Long Time Coming: Eyja Pullover

Posted on November 7, 2010 at 4:54 am, by Admin
in Category Knitting | Tags: ,,,,

The summer was pretty quiet on the knitting front.  One hat and two shawlettes over 4 months time.  It’s not terrible, but for me, it’s less than normal.  However, I had a great summer of travel, hiking, reading, gardening, cooking… so, it’s nothing to “sneeze” at.

By mid-September, I started to feel the urge to knit again – the “mojo” was dormant.  Seeing the beautiful fall collections helped, but it wasn’t until I devoted time to actually finishing something that the desire came flooding back in.  Happy to report that knitting mojo is at a very high level right now – thanks in part to this little number:

Eyja Icelandic Pullover

Eyja Icelandic Pullover

Eyja Pullover

Pattern: Eyja from Lopi 26
Yarn: Briggs and Little Regal (green + purple), Gala Wools (yellow) Davidson Mill (ivory)
Needles: Size US 7 and 8 circulars
Ravelry Notebook :: Flickr Photostream

Started back in the hot hot heat of July – and finished when the temperatures have mellowed out a bit (hopefully they will stay that way!) The pattern was one that I wanted to make for years, and I finally cast on.  There are several modifications:  pullover instead of a dress, slight omission in the colorwork pattern’s first yoked row (did not do the small crosses across the bustline), and a slightly different cuff and neckline.  The original calls for an eyelet lace, and I opted for a simpler look – a hemmed sleeve cuff, and a regular ribbed crewneck.  I am happy with my choice, and especially happy the sweater turned out so well.  When I first put the yarns together – I was worried that it was a bit garish.  I think the results are just what I wanted:  colorful but not “loud”.

Eyja Icelandic Pullover

Happy to get my groove back just as the season is starting to change… what knitter doesn’t love sweater weather?

…and if you are planning to go to NY Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck in a few weeks, keep your eye out for this sweater :)   This’ll be my first time, and I am pretty darn excited.
