Some packages shouldn’t be opened…

Before you go any further, let this be fair warning that the image lurking behind the covered package is not safe for work, little one’s eyes or pretty much anywhere! Any ocular trauma that occurs is not the fault of WNTC. Now pass the brain bleach, this one has left a nasty burn on my brain that I can’t seem to get rid of!

Many thanks to Jo, one of our readers, who sent this link in as a comment to our previous post about man thongs – we decided it was worthy of its own post!

SOME NEW YEAR’S INSPIRATION

I’m not much into New Year’s Resolutions, but I certainly think this afghan might push me to look at my crochet in a different way and strive for more creativity.

The designer of this beautiful afghan tried to capture the colors of her home in New Hampshire.  There are plenty of other wonderful crochet patterns on her site.  Have a look around…..

white….(and do you want some pins?)

Posted on September 2, 2010 at 12:02 pm, by Admin
in Category Embroidery | Tags: ,,,

Have you noticed something? I have now posted four days in a row! Normally I am a woman of few words, more the withering look kind of girl so this is a bit of a shock for me never mind you. It must mean that I’m having fun and the reason is probably this……..white. The first piece is finished, no zippered pouch for this creation. Instead I went down the ”back it with silk and add a lovely edge” route and I am so pleased I did. I decided to list it too because probably at the end of the day nobody will want it anyway. I often think I should keep things for myself but then I have them in the house because there aren’t many takers so it’s kind of a win, win situation.

The second white piece that I showed you pinned together yesterday now has some embroidery on it. I’m not sure how far I will get with that one today because I have a child returned from the good old U.S.A. this morning with enough dirty clothes to sink a ship so you can guess what I will be doing later. Talking of yesterday though….my pins went down well didn’t they? So I have decided to spread the love a bit. I am going to give you some pins, if you want some. I will give 3 people one packet of pins. My generosity knows no end!! Now don’t get over excited because you literally will get ONE PACKET OF WHITE PINS. Now I have had so many comments this week, more than my fair share me thinks but I don’t know any other way of doing this, so leave a comment and I will randomly pick 3 people to get a measly, scrawny, sad, penny pinching pack of white pins sometime at the weekend. I know, you’re underwhelmed, what can I say, I do try.

Stitch ON Grrl:
Linda, when did u pick up Stumpwork?

Linda:
About a year ago when we started Teaching Classes here at Beverly’s Crafts in Santa Maria, where I work!

Stitch ON Grrl:
What do u likey like bout Stumpwork?

Linda:
Itz FAST!!! I also enjoy the Embelishing, Layerings!!
Very cre8tive and u can just keep adding to it!
You start out by finding a antique picture or design, paint it on fabric, and then use floss, ribbon, fabric to create layers. You can also add seed beads. It is a project that you can just keep working on, and it’s never really finish it!!

Linda’s Work! Awesome!!

Stitch ON Grrl:
Whatz your fav book on the subject?

Linda:
I really really enjoy many, but my fav Author is Di Van Niekerk. Shez written many books my favorites are: Flower Fairies as well as Ribbon Embroidery and Stumpwork. Many of my ideas have hatched from those books! I highly recommend them!

Linda’s WIP!! gorgeous!!

Stitch ON Grrl:
Any advice to anyone wanting to try their hand at Stumpwork?

Linda:
Don’t be afraid!!! Try different textures, layers and beads
Let yourself just go and be cre8tive with no limitations!!!

Another WIP! Nice!!

Thank u so much Linda 4 taking time out of your day an doing this interview on the fly!!

SOME SWEET CROCHET

Posted on August 18, 2009 at 1:39 am, by Admin
in Category Crochet | Tags: ,,

I ran across more sweet crochet when I was looking for baby things.  Here are some of the goodies I found.  Please let me know what you think or if you have any links to share with us.  (Some are free; some not!)

http://www.thefabledneedle.com/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&zenid=56d1ae6086cac316f88d3f00d924acb4&keyword=crochet

Check this for inspiration.  I couldn’t find the pattern.

The cutest ‘girly’ tote ever:

And the ruffles to go with those cute pompons.

And, a genuine crocheted version of Elizabeth Zimmerman’s ‘Surprise’ baby sweater:

Change the color(s) to create a sweater for baby boy.
